The client, OTP Ingatlan Zrt. is planning to have a block of approximately 500 apartments built on four adjoining lots in the Vizafogó area of Budapest. As our most important task, we intended to design a complex of buildings which can be seen as one unit but at the same time handle subdivision coming from lot division and the constraints of the regulation plan logically. A complex which, despite its large size, provides its residents with a livable environment as well as convenient community and private spaces. In case of such a huge residential block, it is easy to make the mistake of creating monotonously repeated units; therefore, we opted for a sculpture-like representation. According to the plan, the continuous, dynamic form is broken, creating two separate, yet linked buildings. Their winding parts enclose two partly open inner courtyards, which, due to the level that is elevated because of the parking lot, are still intimate. The fabric-like placement of the windows in the façade and the plain white rendering also reinforce the feeling of a sculpture.
